Nine Times: Recap Part IV

The day had barely begun and Team Fugate is already up 1-0 for the day.   The bros made their way down to the tree row for the double whammy of Horseshoes and Cornhole. (Coincidentally, also a very specific porn genre)

EVENT TWO: CORNHOLE

Round One, found Motz and Ty matched up against Mike E. and Chad.  Motz sunk 4 yam bags, Ty 5, and Chad 3, but Mike E. blitzed Team Fugate for a total of 8 sunk shots. Team Erno disposed of Team Fugate relatively quietly in round one of Cornhole, 21-5.

Round Two pitted Nate and Lewis against Rose and Chris.  Although this game had a little more fight in it, the other Erno cousin caught fire and bested Team Fugate 22-9.  Nate sunk a valiant 8 bags, Lewis 2, and Rose 5. While Chris sunk an event high 11 bags, including 3 in a row to end the game and earn event MVP status. Team Erno squares the day at one a piece.

PROP BETS:

  • Most Sunk Shots in One Game: Chris
  • Most Sunk Shots in One Game, Over/ Under 12.5: Under
  • MVP: Chris

EVENT THREE: HORSESHOES

Concerned about our general suck-a-tude when it comes to shoes, we shortened games to 12 to help keep games shorter than the MLB Sunday Night game of the week.

Round one found the Bloomsburg power couple, Anthony and Steve vs. Weaver and Chris.  Steve, looking for redemption after mockingly being given MVP honors during the BROCHO's shoes event, was up against two of his rivals.  His horseshoe rival Chris, and his golf/life rival, Weaver.  Lewis would have to bide his time, as Weaver gets on the prop bet sheet with the first ringer of the day, and Chris and him take down Steve/ Anthony 12-7.

Round Two pitted the hot cornholing duo of Mike E. and Chad (note to self, never use that phrase again), against Ty and Motz.  Always a tough transition from tossing the bags, to tossing the iron, but Ty and Motz found a way.  They extracted revenge from the cornholing they endured in event two and eked out a 12-9 victory.

The rubber match included a note about modified scoring, yet I have no idea what that included.  I'm going to choose our own adventure and assume we included leaners as two points.  Round three had Nate and Steve versus Rose and Chris.  Would Steve have a chance to redeem himself?  Rose hit a ringer...but so did Steve, as Nate and him went on to win the third round match 21-15, and reclaim a one point lead for the day.

PROP BETS:
  • First Ringer: Weaver
  • Most Ringers by a Player, Over/Under 3.5: Under
  • MVP: Lewis

EVENT FOUR: HOME RUN DERBY

After the pitcher friendly dimensions of last years Derby (4 total HRS?!), the fences were moved in for this years long ball competition.

The Brolympic VII Derby MVP, Motz, started things off for Team Fugate.  Unfortunately the pitching matchup was not to his liking and he couldn't find the launch code, and ended with a goose egg.

Rose lead off for Team Erno.  His flight from GA to PA, must have had a layover in the Bay Area, where he crushed some greenies, the clear and the cream.

Reminiscent of the McGuire, Sosa derby at Fenway, this dude went OFF for a 12 bomb barrage.  Team Erno in a commanding 12-0 lead after round one.

Lewis, the Brolympic V Derby MVP, was in the two slot for Team Fugate. His bid for another trophy fared much better, as he also ran a train on some baseballs and launched 11 over the fence to pull Team Fugate within one.

Chad, slotted across from Lewis in the 2 spot for Team Erno, increased their lead, as he knocked in 4.  Team Erno up 16-11.

The inaugural derby MVP way back at the first Brolympics, Ty, was up next for Team Fugate.  He brought some jam to the party and was able to tie the event up 16-16, with five bombs of his own.

Two time derby MVP, Weaver was up next for Team Erno.  Rose, still feeling the rush after his round one performance, tossed some high cheddar and Weaver only escaped with one dinger. (it was either Rose's dominant pitching performance, or Weav was still exhausted from his romp w/ Chuck)  Team Erno up 17-16.  A note beside Weaver's name in the stat book simply read, "NANCY".

Things were getting tense as we headed into the fourth round.  Anthony batted cleanup for Team Fugate, and retook the lead w/ a four spot.  20-17 Team Fugate.

Opposite Anthony, was 3 time event MVP, Mike E. He was never more excited to try and hit 20 dingers after watching Rose's opening salvo.  He barely could maintain his adrenaline and was able to cobble together 5 home runs.  Team Erno retakes the lead 22-20.

The final round found Nate anchoring Team Fugate, needing two to tie. Historically Nate has had a flair for the dramatic to close out events. We'll label this one, flair-ish, as he knocks in exactly two, tying the event at 22-22.

Batting in the bottom of the 5th found Chris needing one moon shot to put a W in the books for Team Erno.  Let's see how he did:

Did the video miss a walk off?  Nope.  It did catch Mike E. giving advice like a worried Little League Dad though. (Good look.)  Ultimately, the stat book commenter ended up having to leave a comment next to his own Oh-fer. (one that I can't repeat in a public forum)

For the first time in Brolympics history, we came to the end of Home Run Derby knotted up 22-22.  Team representatives Ty and Mike E. conferred, and agreed upon a tie-breaker format.  One batter, three pitches for each team.

Steve having the hot hand with 11 in round 2, was chosen by Team Fugate.  After much deliberation, Mike E. was chosen by Team Erno, going historic performance over recency bias, keeping Rose and his 12 dingers on the pine.

Despite his early round performance, Steve could not add to his days total, leaving Team Fugate stuck at 22.  Mike E. launched 2 of his 3 pitches over the fence, to solidify Team Erno's win, and knot the day at 2-2.
